Special Council Meeting
July 1, 2009

Meeting called to order by Mayor Harold M. Edwards, Jr. at 5:00pm.

Executive Session:  Motion made by Councilman Smith to enter into executive session at 5:05pm; seconded by Councilman Wright.  Motion carried.
Executive session adjourned at 5:35pm; Mayor and Council reconvened.

Affidavit and Resolution:  City Attorney Tydings read resolution.  Motion made by Councilman Wright to adopt resolution as written; seconded by Councilman Andrews.  Motion carried.  Affidavit executed by Mayor Edwards and notarized by City Clerk Bedingfield.  Affidavit and Resolution attached and made part of official minutes.  

Motion made by Councilman Smith to add item to agenda: Fire Department Personnel Matters; seconded by Councilman Andrews.  Motion carried.

Fire Department Personnel Matters:  Mayor Edwards reported that Chief Ken Mathews tendered his resignation effectively immediately.  Resignation letter reviewed by City Administrator Eidson , City Attorney Tydings and Governing Authority.   This requires no acceptance by Mayor and Council.   Mayor Edwards stated at this point the Fire Chief position is vacant and entertained motion to install Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jones as acting Fire Chief at this time.  
Motion made by Councilman Wright to install Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jones as acting Fire Chief ; seconded by Councilman Andrews.  Motion carried.

Mayor Edwards stated a press release shall be distributed to media.  Motion to approve press release by Councilman Wright; seconded by Councilman Andrews.  Motion carried.  Governing Authority directed City Administrator Eidson to distribute press release to media.

Mayor Edwards entertained motion to adjourn meeting.  Motion made by Councilman Smith to adjourn meeting at 6:43pm; seconded by Councilman Wright.  Motion carried.
