Mayor John R. Harley is a native Georgian originally from Savannah, Georgia. He first moved to Centerville in 1992 as a retired member of the United States Air Force. He is married to his wife of 52 years, Shirley, and they have two children and 3 grandchildren. The Mayor received his Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in 1972 in Packaging Technology and also graduated from Indiana University in 1976 with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration focusing on Management and Transportation. Mayor Harley has also received the highest city government award from the Georgia Municipal Association.
When asked why he ran for City Council, the Mayor simply states, “I ran for Mayor because I believe I have the ability to well represent the City of Centerville.” Mayor Harley believes the City is working towards the goal of being well prepared to take advantage of future commercial growth opportunities. He also believes citizen involvement in local government is very important. “It prepares them to be knowledgeable of the City and its needs and capabilities.”
Mayor Harley is a member of the Masonic Lodge of Fort Benning, Georgia and attends Harvest Church in Byron, Georgia.
